Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, has recently garnered attention for promoting a website that sold T-shirts with swastikas during the Super Bowl — and “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin says that shouldn’t be dismissed.

During Friday’s episode, fellow “View” host Joy Behar opened the segment by noting that Ye’s history of antisemitic behavior is finally “catching up with him.” Earlier in February, Ye made several antisemitic posts on X, formerly Twitter. In one post the rapper labeled himself as a Nazi and then went as far as professing his love for genocidal dictator Adolf Hitler.

“I feel like for some reason Kanye has been given a pass,” Griffin remarked, while acknowledging that there is a “perception” that the rapper “may have some mental health issues.” In a Feb. 6 post from the Guardian, Ye said that he was previously misdiagnosed with bipolar disorder, and has now been diagnosed with autism.

She then emphasized her point by saying that there are millions of people with mental illness, but that their afflictions don’t cause them to say, “bigoted, racist, antisemitic things.”

Griffin further highlighted the massive social media influence, pointing out that he currently has more Instagram followers than there are Jews in the world — a stark reminder of the power his words hold over impressionable audiences, particularly young people.

Sunny Hostin later chimed into the conversation, saying, “There’s something really wrong going on here with Kanye West.”

“The African American community and the Jewish community have always been tied because both communities have been so oppressed,” Hostin said. The legal expert continued, saying, “oppressed people must fight together.”

Sara Haines also weighed in, describing Ye’s actions as “hate-filled awfulness.” Behar wrapped up the conversation by labeling Ye a “compulsive attention seeker.”
